The Grace Ruth Memorial Endowment is sponsoring Katerina Stoykova to appear at this year’s literary festival to screen her film Proud Citizen. After winning second place in a playwriting contest, Bulgarian Krasimira Stanimirova travels to the rolling hills of Kentucky for the premiere of her autobiographical, Communist-era play Black Coat. Expecting southern hospitality, Krasi instead finds herself isolated and lonely as she explores America on foot. Proud Citizen is a funny, sometimes heartbreaking meditation on disappointment, traveling, the comfort of strangers, and the joy of funnel cakes. Jury Prize – Best Narrative Feature/ New Orleans Film Festival. Best of Fest/River’s Edge International Film Festival. Audience Award/Knoxville Film Festival. Best Narrative Feature/Athens International Film + Video Festival. Audience Award/RiverRun International Film Festival. After the film screening, there will be a discussion moderated by YSU professor Laura Beadling.
